Lesson 5 of 7
The Cookieless Future
The industry is moving away from third-party cookies toward privacy-preserving alternatives. You do not need every detail, but you should understand the direction of travel.
What is emerging
- Privacy Sandbox APIs in Chrome, such as Topics and Attribution Reporting, that aim to support ads without per-user cross-site tracking.
- A shift toward first-party data and modeled conversions, where gaps from unconsented or unobservable users are estimated.
For measurement, this means fewer perfectly observed user journeys and more reliance on aggregated and modeled data. Tracking still works; it just becomes more statistical and more dependent on data you collect directly.
Key takeaway
The future is first-party plus modeling. Expect aggregate and estimated data to replace some of the user-level detail third-party cookies once provided.
